What is a pedometer?

A pedometer is an electronic, mechanical, or electromechanical device, which counts the steps that a person takes.

What are the benefits of buying a pedometer?

The pedometers are ideal for all athletes and sports enthusiasts, who want to measure their exercise and stay focused and motivated. Most specialists recommend taking at least 10 000 steps every single day in order to stay active, keep optimal weight, and maintain good physical fitness.

What are the different types of pedometers and what are their features?

There are different types of pedometers, some of which basic and inexpensive, but often inaccurate and others, which are premium and offer more features, higher accuracy, and can be either carried or attached. According to the mechanism that they use, the pedometers are divided into spring-levered and piezoelectric. The spring-levered pedometers are accurate, when the person is walking at a slower speed, but the piezoelectric pedometers do not produce the tilt errors that the spring-leveled pedometers suffer from. There are advanced pedometers, which measure heart rate, calories burnt, and even distance, but only the top of the range ones are considered accurate in these measures. A good pedometer is one, which operates with 90% accuracy, but the way that a pedometer is worn could also improve this accuracy. Most models are worn on the waist and should be worn upright, especially if they are spring-leveled.
