[06/07/2010] Accuracy

Even though the sensors that most of the today’s pedometers use have greatly improved from their predecessors, most models still count various motions as steps. Studies by the British Journal of Sports Medicine have proven that the most basic and inexpensive models are the ones that are least accurate and their error margin can be as wide as 30% to 50%. On the other hand, the better brands that are also typically pricier report the number of taken steps with 97% accuracy, which is deemed acceptable even by the most advanced users. As a rule, the pedometers are most accurate when they are positioned properly and also when the person that carries them walks on a flat surface.
